Seongsan Sunrise (Ilchulbong) Peak

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, which is 180m above sea level, erupted underwater in the ocean about 5,000 years ago. This makes it a very rare case among the many craters in Jeju Island.

Though people used to farm in the crater, it is now a natural habitat for 200 types of vegetation such as silvergrass and giant angelica, among others, as well as a natural habitat for a variety of wild animals.

Seongsan Ilchulbong has long been considered one of the top scenic destinations in Korea. It attracts millions of visitors a year, many of whom climb to the top for the breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean, Udo Island, Hallasan Mountain, and the volcanic landscape of the east.

Seongsan Ilchulbong is a protected area that is the pride both of Jeju residents and citizens of Korea.

It was designated a Natural Monument on July 19, 2000 and subsequently recognized for its outstanding geological value by UNESCO on July 2, 2007, when it was added to the World Natural Heritage List. The peak was also named a Global Geopark Network site in October, 2010.

Oedolgae Rock

Oedolgae Rock, 20 m in height, is the first thing that you will see when you look at the rocks surrounding Namju’s Haegeumgang River and the Seogwipo Chilsimni Coast. About 2 km away to the west of Seogwipo City there is Sammaebong Parsitic Volcano and Oedolgae Rock, which stands on a beautiful shore near the mountain, and was formed when a volcano erupted and changed the island’s landscape about 150,000 years ago. Since it is a strong rock carved by wave erosion, it is called a sea stack. At the peak of the island, there are pine trees that are regenerating.

The scenery behind Oedolgae Rock just after sunrise is amazing. If you are staying in the Seogwipo area, it is a great place to visit along with Sammaebong Parasitic Volcano both in the morning and night. The natural reserves of Munseom and Bumseom islands nearby were designated as the 421st Natural Monuments of Korea (on July 18, 2000).

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market (서귀포매일 올레시장)

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market is the largest market in Seogwipo. It is a traditional market that was formed in the early 1960s and is a mainstay in the Seogwipo economy. Starting from 2001, the market expanded its shopping center and now stretches over 620 meters in length. The interior of the market is designed in such a way that visitors can easily navigate through shops and vendors. For customers' ease, the market offers free delivery service as well as cultural programs and outdoor performances.
